Gloria Copeland (subtitle: "Recognizing the Voice of God")
pg 96 - Almost every leading you will receive in your everyday life will be a prompting, an impression, a thought, an inward witness, a leading or an unction from your spirit. The reason it sounds like you is because it is you that you hear. The Holy Spirit communicates with your spirit, and your spirit prompts, or enlightens your mind. ("But the person who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him." -- 1 Cor 6.17 amp)
... my spirit [speaks] to my soul (which is my mind, my will and my emotions).
... There is [also] the audible voice of the Lord, but that is all too rare in most of our lives.
pg 97 - When you start your day by praying the will of God by the Holy Spirit, many times you will have already prayed concerning the problems you will face during the day. You will perceive an interpretation a prompting, an impression, a word or a sentence that will enlighten you and give you the answer to the situation. It will be so natural to you that you might not even realize it was the HS leading and revealing Himself to you. Things that would have been stumbling blocks to you before now will be handled with ease by hearing and obeying the will of God as the Holy Spirit leads you. You need to learn to instantly obey the voice of your spirit. [...] and to cultivate the communion between the Holy Spirit... your spirit... and your mind ... by spending time in prayer and in the Word of God.
pg 98 - "How can I tell the difference and be sure when it is God or just me?" You will have to begin a quest for the things of God... if we seek God, we will find him. Spiritual things do not come w/out serious effort...
Heb 11.1- Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. (11:2) This is what the ancients were commended for.
(11:3) By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
(11:6) And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
pg 99 - I cannot teach you how to walk in the spirit in 7 easy steps. I can only point the way and share w/ you truths I have learned which are working in my life. I am still learning myself... You will do it God's way or not at all... You must allow him to be God in your life...We have to change our thoughts, opinions and actions to agree with His. We have to mature spiritually day by day.
pg 100 - When we put ourselves in a position of obedience, we give God the freedom to overwhelm the natural circumstances of this life with His supernatural power. * To the degree that we disagree with God, we diminish the presence of God in our lives. * To the degree that we agree with God, we increase the presence of God in our lives.
The Word of God will say one of the following regarding a topic:
3. maybe / it depends
4. silence / nothing [does not address that specific issue]
#1 and #2 are the "black and white" areas for which "obedience" (1 Sam 15.22, Psalm 19: 7-11, 13-14, Ps 119:11, 105, ) and/or "temptation" (1 Cor 9.25-27, 1 Cor 10:12-13) may be the topics that need to be addressed in your life.
#3 deals with the gray areas, where hearing from God is important.
#4 is where hearing from God is vital.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and he will direct your paths.
- Prov. 3:5-6
Who may ascend the hill of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. He will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God his Savior. - Ps 24.3-5
